Our Church was founded in 1882 with 18 members without a church building. Our history of working closely with other Christian denominations goes back to our beginnings when worship was held in the Presbyterian Church. The first church was built in 1888. A second building was built in 1912. In 1922 the Church changed its name from Greers Methodist to Memorial Methodist in memory of the original members. The education building, which is still in use today, was built in 1940. In 1957, a new sanctuary was built to replace the 1912 structure. In 1959, the building was severely damaged by fire, and was restored in 1960. In 1972, a Social Hall was built. In 1989, the Family Life Center was built, and remains one of the nicest gymnasiums and educational facilities in the Upstate.

Through it all, the Body of Christ at Memorial has grown from 18 to 600 members, and grew significantly in the past year. Memorial United Methodist Church members work hard to maintain our heritage of excellence in representing part of the Body of Jesus Christ in Greer.
