Adult Christian Education
In addition to Sunday school, there are a number of other opportunities for
Christian education. These include:
Disciple Bible Study - A 34 week detailed study
Financial Peace University - A Bible based financial seminar
Miscellaneous Bible Studies led by the pastor and by members of the
congregation
Also, we have a library filled with various books ranging from the classics
to modern spiritual studies. We have a large selection of children's books
and videos, especially the Veggietales. The library is located on the second
floor of the education building.
Young at Heart (Senior Citizens)
The Young at Heart meets the second Wednesday of every month in the social
hall at 11:45 a.m. for a covered dish luncheon. The meeting begins with the
meal followed by a program with subjects geared toward senior citizens or
varied types of entertainment. These meetings consist of information, fun
and fellowship with plenty of food. Meetings are normally adjourned by 1:00
p.m. There are also short, one day trips to the mountains, museums, outlet
malls, etc. for those interested.
United Methodist Women
Memorial United Methodist Women are a community of women whose purpose is to
know God better. We develop a creative, supportive fellowship through five
circles which meet once a month.
Morning Fellowship Circle Second Tuesday - 10:00 A.M.
Afternoon Circle Second Monday - 2:00 P.M.
Lydia Circle Second Tuesday - 7:00 P.M.
Friendship Circle Third Tuesday - 6:30 P.M.
Magnolia Circle Third Thursday - 6:30 P.M.
Four times a year our circles combine for joint meetings and missions
fundraisers. A Call to Prayer and Self-Denial is held in the winter, a
luncheon takes place in the spring, a covered dish meeting is held in the
fall, and a Christmas Coffee is held in December at which our officers are
installed.
Our United Methodist Women support four Methodist Homes in South Carolina as
well as local missions. Our circles take care of shut-ins by sending cards,
visiting, and providing gifts on various occasions. We also prepare meals
for the bereaved. We are part of a global ministry of one million women who
commit close to $20 million to missions each year.
Music Ministries
Memorial United Methodist offers several ways to express praise to the Lord
through music. These include the chancel choir, the adult hand bell choir,
the contemporary praise band, the children's choir, and some seasonal small
groups.
The chancel choir is led by our music director and sings each Sunday during
the 11:00 a.m. worship service. The choir rehearses year round on Wednesday
evenings at 7:30 p.m. and is always looking to add voices.
The adult handball choir plays during the worship service four times a year,
also under the direction of our music director. Rehearsals occur on
Wednesday evening at 6:30 p.m. during the Fall and Spring. New ringers are
always welcomed!
The contemporary praise band is our newest addition. It plays during the
9:00 a.m. contemporary service. If you want to give praise to the Lord by
singing or playing an instrument, please join us.
Children's choir meets on Wednesday's 4:00 p.m. for both singing and hand
bells. We always seek to add new angels to our group.
Each year, during Advent, a special service is held to celebrate the season
in music. In addition to the groups listed above, joyful sounds of Christmas
are provided by groups from the community as well as small groups from the
church.
